If you’re selling a home in Lake City or one of the surrounding communities, you know it’s important to stage it so it’s as appealing as possible to potential buyers – and one of the key areas to stage is your living room.
So where do you start?
How to Stage Your Living Room
First things first: Take out all the furniture that doesn’t quite “go” or that gets in the way of a smooth traffic flow. The idea is to make your living room look as spacious as possible while framing it as a comfortable place made for entertaining, so that means furnishings that are old, tired or worn should go, too.
Once you’ve pared down your furniture, pull what’s left away from the walls (it makes your space look bigger!) and start looking at your décor. Anything that’s personal, like family photos or items that might alienate potential buyers, needs to come down and be replaced with standard artwork. Consider placing a large mirror next to or across from a window, where it can reflect natural light and make the room look larger.
Check the lights. Does every corner receive light? If not, add lamps to illuminate dark or dim spots.
Clean the windows, too – you don’t want dirt and grime cutting down the amount of natural light you let in.
