It could take as much as one hour for the calf to warm-up—you’re aiming for an internal body temperature between 101 and 102 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Beef Magazine.

Once the newborn starts to recover it may begin to move around. Be careful that it doesn’t knock over the heating lights and potentially start a fire. Next, you’ll need to make sure the calf receives colostrum, which is the first milk produced by a cow after the delivery of its calf. The milk contains antibodies, immunological cells, and bioactive compounds.

Colostrum supplements can be used in conjunction with the intake of maternal colostrum. Colostrum replacers can be used in the place of colostrum.

Place the newborn into a calf warmer
