If you’re thinking of remodeling your kitchen so you can sell it faster – and for more money – think again. It might not be the best investment, and it’s something you should talk to your Realtor® about before you make any commitments.
Here are three questions to ask yourself to make sure the project goes off without a hitch.
3 Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Remodel Your Kitchen
Question 1: What do I want to accomplish?
If your sole goal is to sell your home faster because your kitchen is extremely dated, you might be in for a pleasant surprise: The kitchen is often the make-or-break room when buyers make purchasing decisions. While you might not recover all the money you poured into the kitchen, selling it quickly can really make up for it.
Question 2: How much can I afford?
When you remodel your kitchen, you’re most likely cutting into your profits on the sale of your home – and at the very least, you’ll end up taking money from the down payment on your next home, unless you buy the kitchen on credit. Make a realistic budget to determine how much is acceptable to spend.
Question 3: Can I save money?
Sometimes the bulk of the cost of a kitchen remodel lies in materials. If you can buy more affordable (not cheap!) materials, you may be able to save a significant amount of money. You might also consider refacing the cabinets instead of replacing them, or lightening up on the new layout you want.
