Always, always, always take your pets with you when you leave the house. Dogs and cats, most importantly, but if you have birds, hamsters and other animals that it’s easy to move, they should get in the car with you. (You can leave your fish behind.)

Even if the people coming to see your home are animal-lovers, they don’t want your pets underfoot while they’re looking at the home. What’s worse, though, is that they may not be animal-lovers. Some people are allergic, and some people are downright scared of animals – even little ones in cages.

Take your pets’ belongings with you when you leave, too. You don’t want lingering pet odors – or the thought that pets actually live in your home – scaring off your buyers.
