If you’re like most people who want to buy a home in the Lake City area, you have a list of must-have features… but are you considering everything?
There are three things that many homeowners forget to consider until they’ve spent a few weeks in their new home.
Points of the Compass
If you happen to see a home on a cloudy day, it can be difficult to tell how much natural light each room receives. Even when the sun is shining, you’ll probably only get a feel for the lighting at one time of day. Are you a late riser? You may prefer a bedroom window that doesn’t face east. The setting sun may be lovely from your living room window, but the glare could be bothersome while you’re washing up the dinner dishes.
Know what rooms are sunny and warm, and which are more dim—and cooler. It can help increase your eventual happiness in your new home.
Places to Store Things
While you’re imagining yourself in a home, try to imagine where you’ll keep things. Are there adequate cabinets in the kitchen? A pantry area? Closets for linens, towels and cleaning supplies? No one wants their vacuum cleaner sitting in the corner of their living room when not in use. Make sure there are places to keep things you don’t wish to have out at all times.
Ambient Noise
Consider the noise level both inside and outside of the home. You don’t want to be the noisiest neighbor in a quiet subdivision any more than you want to be bothered by noise, either—so take your own lifestyle into account.
Is there a busy road nearby? A schoolyard or playground? Airport or railroad tracks? A neighbor with a woodshop in the garage? It may be worthwhile to walk around the neighborhood during different times and days to get a feel for the area’s usual noise level.
