Selling a home in Lake City? Make sure you’re not making these huge mistakes that can wreck your yard (and scare away potential buyers).
3 Mistakes to Avoid in Your Yard
These aren’t in any particular order – they’re just a list of things you should never, ever do in your yard if you want it to stay healthy and looking its best.
#1. Don’t cut the grass too short
While it might feel like you’re doing yourself a favor by cutting the grass too short, because it’ll take longer to grow back, you’re not. Cutting too short (or too often) makes the shoots weak and prevents the plants from developing strong roots. Weak grass can’t last through the heat, and weeds and crabgrass can come in and take over more easily.
#2. Don’t over-water
If you over-water your grass, you could actually be drowning it. When the soil becomes too saturated, it gets harder for the roots to pull in the water they need. Ideally, you’ll give your lawn about 0.33 inches of water every other day when it’s dry. Try to water only in the morning, and make sure you don’t water on days it’s supposed to rain.
#3. Don’t plant the wrong species
If you plant the wrong type of seed for our area, or the wrong type for your yard, you’re asking for trouble. Some lawns get way more sun than others do; others have pools where water gathers and features that can impact plant life. Most lawns are a decent mix of sun and shade, so try mixture seeds that combine heat- and draught-tolerant grasses with sturdy grasses that can withstand erosion and foot traffic.
