Sellers Making a Counteroffer

When you’re selling a property in Lake City or one of the surrounding communities and you receive an offer, you have a few choices. You can accept it as-is if you’re happy with it, you can reject it outright, or you can counteroffer.

But how do you counteroffer, and what can you do to make the agreement more favorable for yourself?

Making a Counteroffer

You can always come back to a buyer and ask them to pay more for your property if the offer is too low. You can also dive into other negotiations that aren’t directly related to price. For example, you might be able to negotiate on who pays for things like the buyer’s closing costs or points to the buyer’s lender, or who pays the real estate agent’s commission.

Remember that many buyers (especially first-time buyers) might be short on cash. They’re saving up to buy a home, so making a few concessions here and there might be a relief to buyers who want to get the best possible deal.

For example, you might offer to cover some of the buyer’s closing costs in exchange for them paying full list price for the property, or you may decide to take some money off the sales price in exchange for repairs.

When it comes to counteroffers and negotiations, remember that your real estate agent is a trained professional – he knows how to negotiate in a way that lets everyone walk away feeling as if they won.
