When you’re buying a farm for sale in North Florida, it’s important that you work with a Realtor® who understands how to help you best. Your agent will help you ask all the right questions about properties you’re interested in, including those about water, soil and amenities on the land.
3 Important Considerations When You Buy Farmland
The three most important considerations when you’re buying a farm have to do with water, soil and amenities on the land.
Water
Is the water on the property clean? Is there enough for the family and the farm itself? What about springs, creeks, rivers and lakes on the property? Are there ponds, or could you put one in if you needed to?
You need a property that has sufficient usable water for you, your animals and irrigation.
Soil
Is the soil farmable? If so, how much of it is unusable? Where will grass grow, and are there hazards that could prevent you from farming crops?
Even if you’re not growing crops, your animals will likely need land with soil where things can grow.
Amenities on the Land
Check out all the buildings and fences. Are they in good shape? Do the utilities work? You may need to make significant repairs, so it’s important to figure out how much time and money improvements will cost you.
