When items inside your home no longer smell their best you don’t always have to buy cleaning solutions and sprays, or hire professionals, to freshen things up. Here are three shortcuts to a rejuvenated residence.
Revive Musty Sofas and Curtains
If your upholstery begins to take on a not-so-pleasant smell you don’t necessarily have to hire a professional cleaning service. A little vodka can do the trick. Pour some vodka into a spray bottle and use it to lightly mist the surfaces of your furniture and curtains. The vodka will help lift odors because it’s a natural deodorizer and disinfectant. So, in between deep cleanings, you can keep your upholstery smelling its best using this popular beverage. And that calls for a toast.
Tackle Stinky Trash
When it comes to kitchen trash cans it’s not about preventing them from stinking as much as it’s about neutralizing the odor. You could spend extra money on trash bags that have been enhanced with a fragrance, or you could save your money and kill odor using this simple technique.
Before inserting a new trash bag, line the bottom of the trash can with newspaper—this will help catch and absorb leaks. Next, layer a few scented laundry dryer sheets on top of the newspaper to help neutralize odors. Finally, insert your trash bag and place a couple of dryer sheets inside there as well. Tossing trash may never be more pleasant.
Destroy Dishwasher Odor
White vinegar can work miracles in your kitchen. When your dishwasher begins to put off a nasty odor just pour a cup of white vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher and run it empty. This will help clean out old food particles and freshen things up. You can also substitute the vinegar with baking soda, or even powdered lemonade. Any of these three can help eradicate a stench.
