When it comes to freshening things up around the house you don’t have to spend a lot of time and money. Consider these three quick shortcuts to refresh your residence.
Freshen Your Fridge Using a Cotton Ball
After enough spills, drips, and food items that have overstayed their welcome, the fridge begins to take on an odor. After you’ve cleaned up any messes and evicted spoiled food, it’s time to freshen things up. You can do it using a cotton ball and vanilla extract.
Simply soak the cotton ball with the extract, place it on a small dish, and position the dish on a shelf in the back of your refrigerator to allow the vanilla aroma to fill the air.
Create a Sumptuously Sweet Simmer
To get an aroma that can permeate your entire home consider simmering a pot of spices and herbs on your stovetop. For a warm and delicious scent mix vanilla extract with powdered cinnamon in a small pot of water (add orange peels if you’d like) and allow the boil to waft throughout your home. For a lighter, more herbaceous scent, consider boiling herbs like thyme with slices of lemon.
Stop the Stink in Your Kitchen Sink
A dirty garbage disposal can make the drain of your kitchen sink reek. While you can use special liquids or pods to try to tackle the odor, you can stop the stink using items right from your pantry. If you’ve got white vinegar and lemons, you’re well on your way.
Simply slice a lemon into small pieces, thin wedges or triangles, and put each piece into an empty ice tray. Fill each section of the tray with white vinegar and allow it to freeze overnight. Remove the cubes and store them in a plastic zipper bag.
When your sink starts to smell drop a couple of cubes down the drain and turn on the garbage disposal. The ice chunks will help remove stuck-on grease and goop from the grinding elements, the vinegar will disinfect, and the lemon slices will release a fresh scent. You can also substitute the lemon with a lime, or an orange.
