Even though you may have a little more time on your hands to get things done around the house these days you may be avoiding the clutter in your closet or pantry because you just don’t know how to make efficient use of the space. Consider these three ways to conquer your cluttered closet.
Use No-Slip Hangers
If your closet is filled with an assortment of hangers amassed from department stores and dry cleaners, you may not be making the best use of your space. Consider investing in non-slip hangers, which tend to be more compact in construction and can help you fit more within your closet. An added benefit is that you may not have to keep picking up clothes that have slipped from the hangers.
Add Closet Rods and Shelves
Are you making the most of the vertical space in your closet? Think about adding a second rod nearer the ceiling for clothes like pants. Also consider adding a shelf, if there’s space between your last shelf and the floor, to store folded items. These two moves can basically triple your space. (Just make sure you don’t place your additional rod too high).
Pantries can also benefit from an extra shelf. Many newly-built homes leave about 2 feet between the very last shelf and the floor. Consider adding a shelf there. You’ll be able to store more items without having to place them on the floor where they can more easily become disorganized and messy.
Use Labeled Bins
Never underestimate the efficiency of storage bins and baskets. All of the small items that don’t necessarily require space on a shelf in your linen or utility closets—especially oddly shaped ones that won’t stay upright or will slip through wire shelves—are ideal for storage bins. Add labels to easily identify the contents.
