A lot of people are considering a move to the country right now – and USDA loans can help. These loans, backed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Guaranteed Housing Loan Program, are designed to help low- and moderate-income borrowers buy property outside of cities.
USDA Loan Benefits That Can Help You Move to the Country
USDA loans offer several benefits, including:
- Low or no down payments
- Looser requirements for income
- Lower credit history requirements
These loans are available to more people than you may think – and you don’t have to live way out in the middle of nowhere to buy a home with one of them. In fact, homes qualify as long as they’re outside a metropolitan area; even many communities with populations up to 35,000 are fine. You can check out the USDA’s map to look for areas that are eligible for these types of loans.
What About Income Limits?
You don’t have to be extremely low-income to qualify for one of these loans. In fact, the USDA recently increased its income limits for loans. In most places, the income limit for households with one to four people is $90,300. In households with five to eight people, it’s $119,200.
