If you’ve been looking for a home for sale in Lake City for any length of time, you’ve probably seen houses here and there listed as FSBO – but what is FSBO, and what difference does it make when you find one you want to buy?
What is FSBO?
FSBO is an acronym for For Sale by Owner, and it means that the homeowner isn’t working with a Lake City Realtor®.
You can still buy a home that’s for sale by owner, and as long as you’re working with your own Realtor (why wouldn’t you?) the process won’t be much different than it would be if you were purchasing a house from someone who had his or her own representation.
What to Know About FSBOs
The bottom line is that most people who put their homes on the market really want to sell – but they don’t want to hire a Realtor to assist them. There could be a million different reasons a person decides to sell his or her own home, but the fact is that the National Association of Realtors® says that FSBOs sell for less than homes sold by real estate agents. This could be because people selling their own homes aren’t well-practiced in negotiation (sellers who hire real estate agents have the agents negotiation skills backing them up), or it could be because they haven’t priced their homes high enough.
